04 – 11 March – Ebb and Flow, an exhibition of paintings by Debra Ivens and drawings by Liz Atkin
Debra Ivens
Debra Ivens draws inspiration from the ever-changing seascapes and landscapes of the South of England. Her latest abstract collection reflects her fascination with the shifting colours and forms she observes during her daily walks, capturing the essence of a place and moment in time. Her work invites viewers to see their surroundings with fresh eyes, evoking personal memories and emotions while fostering a deeper appreciation for the raw beauty and power of nature—and the untamed wonder of wild Britain.
Liz Atkin
Liz Atkin’s practice transposes the motion, rhythm and patterning of Compulsive Skin Picking into drawing with charcoal, a soothing antidote to the condition’s deeply tactile character. Liz moved to Whitstable in 2021, and her practice has evolved to respond to the new environment. Captivated by the sea, sky and tidal textures, the coastline has provided fuel for her artwork; physical sensations swirl into her Whitstable in Charcoal drawings. Liz Atkin is a mental health advocate and raises awareness for the Compulsive Skin Picking around the world. She has exhibited and taught in the UK, Europe, Australia, USA, Singapore and Japan. Her work is permanently held in the Wellcome Collection, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, Derby Museum and Bethlem Gallery Collection. Liz teaches art in schools, hospitals, hospices, prisons, arts venues and universities. She is an ambassador for The Big Draw, the world’s largest drawing festival, focusing on the role of creativity for health and wellbeing.
