Penny Murchison

Penny uses the forest and landscape as an inspiration and nourishment for her artwork. She finds fine detail and marks made by both man and nature fascinating. Her work encompasses sculpture printmaking photography and painting.

‘Wood Reef’ is a collection of sculptural responses to wood and treelife, utilising byproduct from local coppicing and fallen trees, giving it new life.

Her pieces often work best together, or alongside plants, as they would in the natural environment.

Penny studied at the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury, where she graduated in Fine Art in 2013. Her Wood Yard Studio is in Tankerton, and she works regularly with Kent Wildlife Trust in the local Blean Woods.

Sometimes I use the forces of nature to speak for themselves, other times my carving and charring or other human actions are the communicating force.
